What is Acacia fiber?
In plain words
Acacia fiber is a soluble fiber made from the dried sap of acacia trees. Your body does not fully digest it, but bacteria in your large intestine break it down into substances that can nourish the gut lining. Researchers study it for bowel regularity, gut bacteria, and effects on blood sugar and cholesterol. Evidence for specific health benefits is limited, and it can cause gas or bloating.
Technical definition
Acacia fiber (gum arabic) is a soluble dietary fiber derived from the dried exudate of Acacia species, principally Senegalia senegal and Vachellia seyal, and consists mainly of branched polysaccharides with associated protein fractions. It has no single receptor target: it resists digestion in the small intestine and undergoes microbial fermentation in the colon, producing short-chain fatty acids and potentially altering gut microbial composition. Gum arabic is permitted as a food additive in the United States and European Union; this status does not establish efficacy for treating disease.
