What is Aged garlic extract?

In plain words

Aged garlic extract is made by aging garlic, which changes many of its sulfur-containing substances. The body absorbs some of these substances, breaks them down, and removes their breakdown products. Researchers study it mainly for effects on blood pressure and heart health, but evidence that it prevents heart attacks or strokes is not established. It may increase bleeding risk, especially when combined with blood-thinning medicines.

Technical definition

Aged garlic extract is a botanical preparation produced by aging Allium sativum bulbs, commonly in an aqueous ethanol solution, yielding a mixture enriched in stable, water-soluble organosulfur compounds such as S-allyl cysteine. It has no single established molecular target; research examines effects on redox signaling, nitric oxide availability, and platelet activation. It is marketed as a dietary supplement, not an FDA-approved treatment for disease.
