What is Colostrum?
In plain words
Bovine colostrum is the first milk cows make after giving birth. Adults digest much of its protein, though some components may act locally in the gut. Researchers study it for gut health, immune support, and exercise recovery, but evidence for clear benefits remains limited. It can cause digestive upset and allergic reactions in people with a milk allergy.
Technical definition
Bovine colostrum is the early milk produced by cows after calving, a complex biological mixture containing immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, growth factors, and other nutrients rather than a single peptide. It has no single molecular target: antibodies can bind microbes and lactoferrin binds iron, while oral proteins are subject to digestion and their systemic activity in adults is not established. It is marketed as a dietary supplement in the United States, not an FDA-approved treatment for disease.
