What is Probiotic vaginal-health blends?

In plain words

These products contain live bacteria similar to those found in a healthy vagina. Some may survive temporarily and make lactic acid, which helps keep the vagina acidic and limits certain unwanted microbes. Researchers study them for maintaining vaginal bacteria and reducing the return of bacterial vaginosis, a common bacterial imbalance. Evidence varies by bacterial strain and product, so results from one blend do not apply to all others.

Technical definition

Probiotic vaginal-health blends are preparations of live microorganisms, typically Lactobacillus species such as L. crispatus, intended to influence the vaginal microbial ecosystem. Rather than acting through a single receptor, these organisms may produce lactic acid and compete with other microbes, supporting an acidic environment; effects depend on the strain and formulation. In the United States, products marketed as dietary supplements are not FDA-approved treatments for vaginal infections.
