Cerebrolysin
Research Use
Also known as FPF-1070
Function
Primary
Stroke recovery · Vascular & Alzheimer dementia (ex-US)
Mechanism
Porcine-brain-derived low-MW peptide mixture with BDNF/GDNF/NGF-like activity — promotes neurogenesis, synaptogenesis and neuroprotection.
Evidence
Clinical RCT (Limited)
Research
Phase III CARS, CASTA trials
Dosing
Range
10–50 mL/day IV (clinical); 5 mL/day IM (maintenance)
Frequency
Daily courses (10–21 days)
Route
Intravenous · Intramuscular
Administration & Technique
Intramuscular
Outpatient courses.
Device5 mL ampoule, 21G needle.
TechniqueDeep IM (deltoid or gluteal), rotate side. Course: 10–20 consecutive days.
IV Infusion
Hospital / acute stroke protocols.
DeviceDiluted in 100–250 mL normal saline.
TechniqueSlow IV infusion 30–60 min. Clinician-only.
Injection & Application Sites
Front
Back
Intramuscular
- Dorsogluteal (upper outer) — Upper outer quadrant of the buttock. Used for depot IM; alternate sides each cycle.
- Upper arm / deltoid — Back of the upper arm for SubQ; 2 in below the shoulder bone for IM.
IV Infusion
- IV — clinician only — Antecubital vein or central line. Not for home administration.
Diagram is a general illustration, not a medical instruction. Rotate sites every injection, keep 1 in (2.5 cm) between recent sites, and avoid scars, moles, bruises and the navel area.
Cycling
10–21 day courses, repeated quarterly.
Timing & Interactions
When to take
Daily IM or slow IV infusion, morning preferred. Typical courses: 10–20 days on, then break.
Do not combine with
- ·Severe renal impairment
- ·MAOIs — theoretical serotonergic interaction
Complements
- ·Semax, P21 in neuro-recovery protocols
Storage & Reconstitution
Powder (Pre-Reconstitution)
Lyophilized powder: refrigerate 2–8°C for up to 24 months, or freeze at –20°C for extended storage. Keep sealed, desiccated, and protected from light.
After Reconstitution
After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, refrigerate at 2–8°C and use within 28 days. Discard if cloudy, discolored, or precipitated.
Notes
Do not freeze after reconstitution — freeze/thaw cycles degrade most peptides.
